The partnership
Founded in 1908, Les Echos is the leading French business and financial daily newspaper.
Les Echos has a circulation of 137.448 (OJD 2006). It is the leading financial daily newspaper read by business leaders and executives as well as decision-makers. Generally, Les Echos is read by more than 486 000 people each day (according to Ipsos FCA 2007).
The editorial staff is made up of 180 journalists, 50 regional correspondents and 12 foreign correspondents.
In September 2003, Les Echos adopted the smaller Berliner format, like most of its important European counterparts. The daily newspaper became denser in information and more accessible: the new version is divided in two “supplements”, the first one grouping all macro-economic information, the second one, “Firms and markets”, all micro-economic issues, firms and financial markets information. Les Echos week end, published as a third notebook every Friday, deals with leisure and personal finance. As a result, readers can find information on economics, stocks & shares, finance, firms, and culture from France and the rest of the world.
Each month, the newspaper dedicates three pages, “the map of talents”, to the workings and origins of the main cultural networks within various French cities. The newspaper also added a space for local communities and a page on “Firms and regions”, brought to the reader in collaboration with local correspondents, in order to bring attention to French regions and the institutions and firms that help them thrive.
In addition, numerous real-time macro-economic issues are reviewed in a third notebook: Results and Perspectives, Sustainable Development, Maritime Economics, Energy, etc.
Finally, the newspaper looks at new ideas and opinions in its last two pages: economists and thinkers help readers put economic reality in perspective.
